In Gwinnett County, arrest warrants are issued through the Magistrate Court. The active warrants are then served by the Gwinnett sheriff's department Field Operation Division. This division includes the Warrants Unit, the Uniforms Unit, the Fugitive Unit, and the Sex Offender Registration Unit, as well as several others. The Warrants Unit processes, tracks and verifies the 23,000 criminal warrants that they receive in an average year in accordance with strict federal and state guidelines. The Uniforms Unit serves warrants to the suspects. These can be related to felonies, misdemeanors, bench warrants, and Recorder's Court warrants. In addition, a citizen may request to have a warrant served against someone, if he or she has been the victim of a criminal misdemeanor. He or she can go to the Magistrate Court and complete a criminal arrest warrant application form. A judge will read the form and decide whether a crime has occurred under Georgia law, and if so, he or she will order a warrant application hearing. Both the citizen seeking the arrest warrant and the alleged offender will have the chance to speak at the hearing; if the judge decides that there is probable cause to issue a warrant from the evidence presented, he or she may do so without further delay. The Magistrate Court also issues search warrants, civil warrants and bench warrants.

To find a bench warrant, the Gwinnett County sheriff's office has set up a searchable online database organized alphabetically by the last name of the offender. The sheriff and other officials of Gwinnett County also set up a service called VINELink, which is intended to provide the victims of crime with updated information on the custody status of the offender who committed the crime. On a local level, the Sheriff's department has set up a search of the official docket containing inmate information, which can be found at http://www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com/Docket%20Book.htm. It has information on all active inmates. VINELink can be found at https://www.vinelink.com/vinelink/siteInfoAction.do?siteId=11002. For active and outstanding arrest warrants, you can check with the Magistrate Court, located at 75 Langely Drive, Lawrenceville, GA, 30045. The phone number is 770-822-8100.
