In Cherokee County, Georgia, the Magistrate Court issues criminal arrest warrants and civil warrants. It is also possible for a citizen to file a pre-warrant in the Magistrate Court after they have reported a crime to a law enforcement agency. There are a number of requirements that must be met for the warrant to be issued. First, both the victim of the crime and the alleged offender must be over the age of 17. Alternatively, the warrant application must be filed by their parent or guardian. Also, the offense must have taken place in Cherokee County. Between 2008 and 2010, more than 9,000 crimes occurred in Cherokee County, Georgia. They were categorized by types that include car theft, burglary, larceny, robbery, assault, rape and murder. In 2008, the number of crimes committed in the county was under 3,000. However, the following year that number rose to just over 3,000 crimes. In 2010 the number rose again to almost 3,500 crimes committed. This is worrisome news for Cherokee County.
