In Houston County, Georgia, warrants are issued by the Magistrate Court. Then, the warrant is sent to the Records Division of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, where it is stored, entered in the local records and the Georgia Crime Information Center, and finally marked as an active warrant and passed on to the Warrant Division, where it is served. An active warrant is one that has been issued but not yet served to the alleged offender, while an outstanding warrant is one that has been active for a certain period without being served. The Warrant Division of Houston County works with the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers to serve warrants and make arrests both in Houston County and outside, and they were number 1in the region in arrests in the years 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2010. They also transport those suspects who have been arrested outside of the county, take fingerprints and run background checks. The Records Division also handles open records requests and provides copies of law enforcement reports.
