Jackson County, GA handles arrest warrants just like most other Georgia counties – – they begin with the Magistrate. The Magistrate’s Office is responsible for issuing criminal arrest warrants after finding probable cause for the warrant. The Magistrate also is accountable for conducting Pre-Warrant Hearings and First Appearance Hearings (after a warrantless arrest). Once the Magistrate issues an arrest warrant, the warrant is then sent to the county Sheriff’s Office to be served upon the defendant. To search for arrest records, you must contact the Jackson County Magistrate’s Office in person, as there are no online records available to search for active or outstanding warrants. The Magistrate’s Office is located at 5000 Jackson Parkway, Suite 230, Jefferson, GA 30549. Regular office hours are between 8:00 am and 4:45 pm Monday through Friday.

You can also search the criminal history of a person in Jackson County by contacting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Criminal History Record Information must be written on an approved form and requested through the Sheriff’s Office’s Central Records Division. Documents may be submitted at the Sheriff’s Office located at 555 General Jackson Drive, Jefferson, GA 30549 during business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The fee for searching the criminal history records is $10 per search.

Crime Statistics of Jackson County, GA

Almost 1100 criminal complaints were filed by the Jackson Sheriff’s Department in 2019, compared to the 723 crimes reported in 2018. The rise was primarily attributed to an increase in the rate of property crimes which almost doubled.

The annual crime total included almost 1,000 property offenses, of which well over 700 were cases of larceny-theft. The 127 complaints against violent crimes included 92 assaults and 10 cases each of rape and robbery.

Jackson County has a lower crime rate than other Georgia counties compared to 2001 through the 2008 period. A crime occurred in Jackson County only once every eight hours during the time. Only four murders were reported during this time, with the majority of all crimes being theft-related. Crime in Jackson County saw a significant increase during 2007 and 2008 when crime increased from less than 200 in 2003 to over 1600 crimes during 2007.
