As compared to the 2018 crime average of 400 cases, the Lumpkin Sheriff’s Office received around 220 criminal complaints in 2019. The figure included 185 criminal misdemeanors and 35 felonies.

Larceny thefts, with 125 cases, had the highest occurrence rate, followed by burglaries with 46 cases and aggravated assaults, with 27 cases.

The rate of crime in Lumpkin between 1999 and 2008 decreased by a little over twenty percent; however, violent crimes rose by over fifty percent for the same period. Between 2003 and 2008, almost 2,600 crimes were reported within the county, with nearly 200 violent crimes. For the period, there were two murders and 32 rapes reported.
